Show Notes

Physio+10 focuses on the journeys of trailblazing Physiotherapists and today's conversation is with Pat Trott.

When it comes to individuals that have guided and shaped our profession, Pat is one of those key people, however, you may be surprised to hear what her first choices were for a profession.

Pat was intimately involved in developing the first musculoskeletal postgraduate program in Australia and starting the Physio Research Foundation, with the intention to secure funds for physiotherapy-focused research. Pat was in the first cohort to complete the Australian College of Physiotherapy's specialisation program (with Brian Edwards and Geoff Maitland), she was the second physiotherapist to become president of the APA and she steered UniSA as head of the Physiotherapy school for 7 years.

Entwined with this exploration of her remarkable career, we get to meet most of the key figures in the musculoskeletal world at the time; J. Cyriax, G.Grieve, J. Mennell, F. Kaltenborn, and we discuss aspects of her long association with Geoff Maitland.

Biography
Pat Trott graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Diploma in Physiotherapy and later completed a Master of Science in Anatomy. She is a Specialist in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and a Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists.

Pat has had extensive experience within the physiotherapy profession as a clinician in the private and public sectors, teacher of both under- and post-graduate students and supervisor of research students, and as Head of the School of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia.

Pat served the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) at a national level for more than 30 years, including as National President, member of the National Advisory Committee, Director of the Physiotherapy Research Foundation, and Chief Censor and examiner for the Australian College of Physiotherapists.  Internationally she represented the APA on the Board of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy.

Pat’s contribution to physiotherapy has been acknowledged by being awarded Life Membership of the Manipulative Therapists Association of Australia in 1993, Honoured Membership of the APA in 2002, and a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2012 for outstanding service to physiotherapy both nationally and internationally.
