Dr Doug Cary - PhD. MSK Physiotherapy Specialist

Barry's Dad was a scholar, his Mum a machinist, both parents were immigrants and he was a confessed computer geek and introvert, so communicating the nuances of pain as a Physio was going to be an uphill battle. And it was.

In this episode, Barry talks about;

  • the challenges of coming from a Vietnamese culture where touch is not considered the norm and Physio was largely unknown
  • how Physio was so tough that he nearly stopped
  • starting in private practice as an employee and only seeing a few clients a day
  • starting his own side business, and the challenges of working in several GP clinics with a bottle of gel and portable plinth
  • how he developed his own PMS to manage appointments, (pre-Cliniko) and then sold it
  • how he realised that Physio as a business wasn’t scalable, and he developed alternative ways to build his $$ income
  • misconception of employees about the ease of being an employer
  • how during COVID completed a boot camp for software engineers and since then has created some IT/Physio software startups
  • how AI will integrate into health practice to reduce admin and other repeated tasks
  • types of intelligence, fluid and crystalised and who has which
